Utah

A Message from Governor Gary R. Herbert

Dear reader,

In the United States, the state of Utah is the place for import, export and investment!

Utah’s economy is one of the strongest in the nation. We currently have the second lowest unemployment rate, the second fastest job growth rate, and the fourth most diverse economy in the US. From advanced manufacturing to high tech, from life sciences to outdoor products, there are abundant opportunities to find trade partners and investment projects in Utah.

It is remarkable that in the past five years, our state of some three million people has increased the number of businesses selling goods abroad from less than one per cent to just under four per cent. In fact, Utah exports have nearly tripled since 2007. You may be surprised an estimated 20 per cent of jobs in Utah are export related. The United Kingdom is one of our key trading partners. My economic team and I work diligently to cultivate relationships with current and future trade partners and investors, and I led a successful trade mission to the United Kingdom in 2013.

We are now focused on diversifying our global trade with partners around the world. Consequently, we held the “Utah Global Forum” in Salt Lake City (utahglobalforum.com), with attendees from Bahrain to Mexico, to foster such relationships. Our next event will be held 23 September 2015. We invite you to visit Utah and see for yourself why Forbes, CNBC, Kaufmann and others have named Utah a top state for business year after year.

Salt Lake City has an international airport, recognised as the most “on-time” airport in the United States, with direct connections to Europe. Our labour force is remarkably multilingual, productive, young and healthy. Utah also offers what we call “Life Elevated”, with the beauty of magnificent red rock deserts combined with the Greatest Snow on Earth®, providing an unmatched quality of life.

Utah is open for business, and I welcome you to Utah and take advantage of all we have to offer.

Sincerely,

Gary R. Herbert
Governor
